GenLogs’ Danielle Spinelli Joins Commercial Carrier Journal Conversation on Cyber-Enabled Cargo Theft

GenLogs Director of Partnerships Danielle Spinelli was featured in Commercial Carrier Journal’s coverage of the 2026 National Motor Freight Traffic Association (NMFTA) Cybersecurity Conference in Long Beach, California. She joined a panel on the role cybersecurity plays in preventing cargo theft.

Danielle started her career as a freight broker and now works on the technology side, so she sees how threat actors operate from both ends of a load. On the panel, she explained how criminals use load boards to find targets by impersonating carriers and exploiting the onboarding process. In one common tactic, a fraudster sends a carrier packet as a PDF the broker is already expecting. One click installs malware that sits quietly on the broker’s system, waiting for a high-value load.

She also raised a growing concern. As truck and driver capacity tightens, brokers under pressure to cover loads may be tempted to skip vetting, which creates more openings for theft.

Her bottom line is that stopping cargo theft takes people and technology working together. She shared the story of a truck that showed up in the wrong shade of red, a small detail that led to the discovery of a fake VIN plate. “The two need to be together: digital front and physical front,” Danielle said. Human instinct catches what feels off, and technology surfaces the signals that confirm it.

That combination sits at the core of what we do at GenLogs.
